Rain, rain, go away!

Today was filled with more winding roads (EQ, you would LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE driving around here - you and BOT should come here and drive!) and mountains and valleys and rivers and oceans (just one ocean, but you know what I mean). Unfortunately, it was also filled with rain. We woke to so much rain pounding the top of the van that The Boy didn't even go for a run. Instead, we went to Queenstown's CBD (large and bustling, for New Zealand, but probably the size of Byward Street, cut in half and put next to each other) and looked for souvenirs and coffee.
Our plan was to drive to Haast and go on a few of the conservation walks, and maybe catch a glimpse of the Fiordland crested penguins (the ones with crazy eyebrows), but we were totally rained out. We had a whitebait patty at a local greasy spoon but "whitebait" is "small white fish used for bait", "patty" means "oversalted omelette", and "delicacy" means "what can we trick tourists into eating". ugh. UGH!

We forged on to Fox Glacier, where we expected another town but were greeted with 500 m of hotels, tour operators, and one overpriced general store and now we're in the lodge hoping that the rain clears up for our glacier hike tomorrow. I'd have wanted to go on a hike around Lake Matheson and another near Fox's terminal face, but the RAIN IS RELENTLESS!!!!!!!!!! and it's putting me in a bad mood! I am breathing and practicing gratitude. I'm on my honeymoon with the best person in the world.
