Wow. I think I am all wined out. No, seriously. OY.
We've explored the Niagara wine region in southern Ontario and the Marlborough wine region in New Zealand, but nothing compares to the Okanagan. It is INTENSE. It is so big, there are sub regions within the region! Yesterday, we drove out to Naramata region, only a few minutes north from Penticton. We visited La Frenz, Laughing Stock (where The Boy picked up a great bike jersey), Black Widow, Lake Breeze, and Therapy wineries, before needing a serious food break to quell the hunger and absorb somma the alcohol. We headed to the Naramata town centre where everyone and their dogs were out for the mid-week market. We picked up some homemade pierogies for dinner and some hand food for the present. The Boy got a blisteringly hot Aussie steak pie that burned his tongue and I ate a decent mini spinach feta pie, a crappy ice-cold samosa from the "Samosa Lady" truck with no line, and then waited for EVER (10 minutes) for the very best chicken jamaican patty i've ever eaten in my entire life. and i've been to Toronto! seriously. Who knew? Naramata!? We finished the day with a nap on the beach, a mini swim, and then wine and dinner.
Today we went to the race expo so The Boy could register and buy IronMan-themed gear. Several hours and hundreds of dollars later, we set off to the Summerland portion of the wine tour. THREE DAYS OF WINING! Today we visited 8th Generation, Sumac Ridge, The Vinegar Works (where we picked up a delicious french tarragon gewurtztraminer vingar!), Hollywood and Wine (where we met another couple from Ottawa!), Dirty Laundry, Heaven's Gate (only open for two weeks!), and Silk Scarf. We tried a pile of delicious wines and a bunch of not-so-great ones. When we'd had about enough, we came back, jumped out to the beach again (not hard when it's only 1.5 minutes away) and then back for those Naramata pierogies (only ok), cheese and smoked goodies, and wine!
and I tried the best little juice from SunRype: apple, pear, and vanilla! YUM! this post is disjointed. oh wine.
